Meet Jose Lorenzo El Piscis, his music, and his story.

El Piscis is a musician, painter and singer-songwriter with a great artistic spirit and bold performance. His musical offering is a blend of traditional sounds from the 1950s and contemporary Cuban music, creating a fusion of genuine and powerful sounds that invite auditory enjoyment and body movement.

Born in Guantánamo, Cuba, in 1977 under the water sign of Pisces, José Lorenzo discovered his artistic side through drawing at the early age of 6, and continued with painting, through which he expressed his concerns and his vision of the world. At 17, his artistic expression cost him an arrest, which, by a twist of fate, did not materialize. At that young age, and after this unfortunate event, he decided to embark on the journey of his life. That same night, along with his cousin, he headed toward Guantánamo Bay, swimming around it at night and hiding on the beach during the day. He reached the U.S. naval base almost three days later. After landing on land, in a deteriorating physical condition, and after 11 days of interrogation, he was finally allowed to go to the United States.

With all the energy of life, this young man left the island and launched himself into the world to find his true destiny: music. José Lorenzo emerged from the water to embark on a long odyssey that would lead him to become El Piscis.

Although circumstances forced him to leave his family, his friends, his neighborhood, his life behind, he never forgot. Remembering his mother, who insisted on the importance of studying as a form of personal development, El Piscis focused on learning English, finishing his high school studies, and graduating with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Virginia.

Proud of his cultural heritage and exploring the passion for music passed down to him by his grandfather, a deep-voiced sonero whose specialty was improvising lyrics with melody and who also possessed great inventive wit, El Piscis, at 21, formed the band Timbason La Original, a fusion of timba, funk, rumba, and son, a style originating from Cuba's Oriente province, which served as the foundation for this rich musical offering.

Pisces are known as the most artistic of all the zodiac signs, marked by this sensitive yet resilient sign, El Piscis, a creative and passionate being. He loves to play and transmit his energy through his music, and since founding his first band, he has evolved to fully express himself as El Piscis. His most recent musical offering, Salsa con Funk!, is a daring fusion of Cuban salsa and son rhythms, seasoned with funk and reggaeton, capable of awakening that inner energy that shakes the body.

Like the symbol of this water sign, which represents two fish facing each other, Pisces flows between two personalities. Behind the scenes, he's a methodical, hard-working, studious, and punctual man whose only vice is black coffee; while on stage, he'll give his all with his fiery music and give himself over to his audience, regardless of whether they speak Spanish or understand the lyrics. Besides his music, this multi-talented artist demonstrates his creative drive in different facets of his life. As an entrepreneur, his inventiveness is reflected in the multifunctional trucks he builds; he keeps the paintbrush in his hand and continues painting; he's currently writing a book about his life and designing a family board game about the history of Cuba.
